What to expect during an acupuncture treatment?
1. A short questionnaire.
Galina will ask you to comfort yourself sitting, and she will go through a short questionnaire, which will include questions regarding the symptoms of your main complaint. There might be some questions that sound not related, but they are important for making the full diagnosis and accurate acupuncture treatment.
2. Tongue & Pulse.
Galina will want to see your tongue and feel your pulse on both wrists. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the body of the tongue and the pulse on both wrists show the energy balance of different organs.
3. Needling.
Very thin needles will be inserted into your skin and will be left for about 30 mins. Time can vary depending on the particular diagnosis.
There are over 365 acupuncture points located all over the body. Particula acupuncture points are chosen depending on the individual diagnosis. It’s not necessary for the needles to be located only where the problem is. For example, if someone has a headache, the acupuncture points combination may include points on the feet and hands.
Does acupuncture hurt?
I would be wrong if I say NO it doesn’t! In many cases after insertion of the needle, people feel a heavy sensation like someone is pressing hard. This is actually a very good sign! It means the needle is at the right point. Sometimes the sensation is much lighter, or sometimes it feels like tingling or something moving under the skin. And this is not wrong! The energy is moving under the skin. It comes to the point to collect information and then spreads around the body to do its job.
In some cases, the patient doesn’t feel anything after the acupuncture needle is in. The acupuncture needles are so thin and fine that sometimes the body is not aware a needle went into the skin. In that case, the practitioner will focus and try to bring the Qi energy to the point and the patient would feel the acupuncture point. If the patient still doesn’t feel anything it’s still fine. Some patients start feeling the energy in a few treatments time.
Do you bring a massage table/treatment couch with you?
Yes, I fully agree that the treatment couch is very important! The body is in a relaxing position and predisposed to the full benefits of the treatment. Also, I can easily reach different locations on the body which makes it preferable for me too!
Bringing a massage table with me to every appointment would drain my energy which I prefer to spend and focus on the actual treatments.
This is why I offer the following options:
The most popular:
With a prepayment of 10 sessions, you get a massage table as a gift! Isn’t that amazing?!
Option two:
I can leave a massage table in your place for the duration of our treatments period. There will be a £100 deposit which is fully refundable after returning the massage table once we decide you would not need any more treatments.
